WhatsApp is said to be developing a new feature that can make users hide their online status.

WABetaInfo has shared a screenshot of a new privacy setting that allows one to choose who can see their online status. This feature will complement recent changes to Last Seen’s functionality.

Over the years, it is said that many users have asked Whatsapp about the ability to actively use the application without many people knowing. Keep some people hidden when using important Whatsapp, for example when they don’t want to be disturbed or feel stalked.

Whatsapp is said to have started accepting requests and will allow users to determine who is allowed to view online statuses. This update is explained to be available in the next Whatsapp update.

WABetaInfo uploaded a screenshot showing the ‘Last Seen & Online’ settings.

The ‘Last Seen’ setting shows that users can choose who can see, namely ‘Everyone’, ‘My Contacts’, ‘My Contacts Exept …, and ‘Nobody’.

While on ‘Online’ the settings are ‘Everyone’ and ‘Same as Last Seen’.

Last year, WhatsApp started automatically hiding last seen contacts to contacts you never chatted with. The feature was created to prevent last seen and online status monitoring.

Although the screenshot was taken during the development of WhatsApp beta for iOS, WhatsApp plans to introduce the same feature in the WhatsApp beta update for Android and Desktop beta in the future.

Unfortunately, this feature is still in development so it is not known when the details will be released to the public.
